In 2016 Love is for Life Trust will run two residential courses for couples preparing for marriage in Emmaus Retreat Centre, Swords, Co. Dublin.

On these residential weekend courses the couples preparing for marriage get the opportunity to hear married couples tell the story of their journey in their marriage. Areas important to their relationship are shared, like the importance of communication in marriage; how to manage our rows; the differences in each of us that maybe we don’t talk about. We look at the importance of priorities in our lives like what time and energy do we give to our relationship; how important is communication in our sexuality and sexual relationship; how essential is forgiveness as a vital element in any relationship and an important part of how we manage conflict between us? We ask the question and explore why do we choose to get married in the Catholic Church?

The weekend is given by a facilitator and married couple/couples. It offers time out, away from all the hassle that wedding plans demand. It also offers the unique opportunity to take home a twelve week follow up programme where couples can continue to keep their relationship at the centre of their lives.

Every couple chooses the preparation for marriage course they think suits them. All preparation courses are good. This residential weekend preparation is different. It offers more time to reflect and a unique model of communicating. It is not group work as each couple is invited to share with each other as a couple. It will provide opportunities for social interaction. And to get the full benefit of the course couples are required to stay for the entire weekend. This weekend course is recognised by the Catholic Bishops of Ireland.

The dates for the weekends in Emmaus are: April 22-24, 2016; and September 30 – October 2, 2016. These weekends begin at 7.30 pm on the Friday evening and end with lunch at 2.00 pm on the Sunday afternoon.

The courses are strictly residential so that couples have to be able to be present for the beginning and remain in Emmaus until the end of the course.
