The Epiphany of the Lord
“We saw his star as it rose and have come to do him homage.” These words of the Magi on this feast of the Epiphany is a call both to a renewal of our own faith and to a new commitment to become the star that shows the way to Christ for others. All our gifts are given to us for others. This is particularly true of the gift of married love. Through living out their Sacrament of marriage, couples ensure that many others can be given hope and confidence in the wonderful truth of Christ. Our homes are also called to be places where the peace of Christ is fostered so that this peace may radiate out to the community. And the community of faith to which we belong has the primary task of drawing the attention of the people around us to Christ our Saviour.
Morning Prayer, when together
Father, you revealed your Son to the nations
by the guidance of a star.
As we dedicate ourselves in our sacrament of marriage,
lead us to your glory in Heaven by the light of faith.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Lord, accept the offerings of your Church,
not gold frankincense and myrrh
but the gentleness and passion of our love for one another.
Increase our married love for the sake of your people.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Evening/Night Prayer together
Father guide us in our marriage with your light.
Help us to recognise Christ in our daily lives
and welcome him with love
for he is Lord for ever and ever. Amen.
