Victory with Christ
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to bring fire to the earth and how I wish it were blazing already”. We Christians do Christianity a great disservice if we turn it into a dull, routine, moral code, a set of rules that contains people but does not inspire them. The fire that Jesus talks about is the fire of love – God’s love for us and the love that we are called to have for God and for one another. In practice we set very low levels to our love. Today Jesus is calling us to fan our love into a flame and let the world be warmed by us and through us by God. The most important places for love to glow are obviously in the relationship of husband and wife in the Sacrament of marriage; the love of parents for their children; and the love that we as a community of faith live in the service of the world we live in. We pray that we can meet this challenge.
Morning Prayer, when together
God our Father
may we love you in all things and above all things
and reach the joy you have prepared for us
beyond all our imagining in our marriage
and in eternal life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Lord, accept the sacrifice of our married love
as a holy exchange of gifts.
By offering what you have given us
may we receive the gift of yourself.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Evening/Night Prayer together
God of mercy, by our sacrament of marriage
you make us one with Christ.
By becoming more like him on earth
may we share his glory in heaven.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Questions for Action for the week
For your marriage: What is your ambition for your marriage?
Share that this week with each other.
For others: How can you help someone in serious need this week?
