Day of Continuous Prayer for Marriage & Family Life
——————————— Parish (5)
——————————————- is our parish day for prayer for Marriage & Family Life.
“Knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Or, as William Barclay puts it, a better translation of this is: “Keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you”.
One of the most important truths about prayer is that God does not need any of our prayers! God is already fully on our side, wanting far more for us than we could ever want for ourselves.
It is we who need our prayers so that we will be more open to accepting what God desires for us and more willing to accept it. By constant prayer the doors of our hearts are gradually opened to God’s grace and God’s way for Marriage & Family Life.
To knock is different from simply tapping on the door. By knocking on it we put ourselves in the hands of God and they are very safe and caring hands.
Sometimes people act as if they have to save the world. All we have to do is to make it possible for Christ to save the world. We do this by bringing our longings, our desires, our ambitions etc. to him. We then let him expand those into his which are always greater and more loving. By our prayer we help to keep open the doors of people’s hearts and lives for his gentle power.
This day is a call to the whole parish to pray for Marriage & Family Life at home, at school, at any Mass that is celebrated on the day, at any prayer group meetings that might take place on ——- of the month etc. as well as those who have undertaken to pray for an hour of this day for these intentions
“Keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you”
